SAT word of the day: – Equivocate– “e-kwiv-e-kate”: Definition: Not taking a clear stand or purposely using unclear language to deceive someone. The sample sentence is: Politicians usually equivocate during their speeches in order to avoid upsetting some of their voters.

Tryouts for Girls Basketball will take place today. Freshmen and JV girls will be in the Big Gym at 2:30, Varsity Girls at 4:30. You must have a physical with you to tryout.

Any 9th grade boy interested in trying out for the freshman basketball team must attend an informational meeting today at 2:30 in the auditorium.

If any student is interested in working the voting polls Tuesday Nov. 7th please see Mrs. Allie in room A208A OR Mrs. Zeidan in the nurse’s office.

Please join us for the Second Annual Mother/Daughter Tea which will be held on Wednesday, November 8th from 6:30- 8:30pm at The Dearborn Center for Performing Arts. Money raised will go to support scholarships for seniors who are actively involved in their community. See Mrs. Harb or Mrs. Herrick for tickets

Seniors who need to sign their senior class shirt have until Friday to do so. Go to Mrs. Saab in B202

Attention students: If interested in dual enrollment, please apply and turn in your forms ASAP.

All girls interested in becoming a member of the Varsity Cheerleading team are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, November 8th at 2:30pm in room A201 – Ms. Hadous’ room. The meeting will be about 45 minutes and will include team expectations and tryouts.

It’s not too late! If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at being an actor, more auditions are being held this Wednesday and Friday in A100 right after school.  Can’t make either day?  Come see Ms. Kanniainen in A100.

Want to help make a difference in your local community. Tis the season for giving! Student Government will be collecting donations in room A 106 or to your teachers who have an Amity container. This money will help feed and clothe families in need!

Buy your Thanksgiving candy grams for $2 during lunch, from a 2018 representative, or go to Ms. Saab and Ms. Ganfi in B202

Yearbooks are still on sale. They are now $75; don’t miss out on your memories! Get yours before the price goes up to $80.

Battle of Hunger is around the corner. There will be an informational meeting for the Battle of Hunger 3 in Room A 106 November 9th at 2:30.

Exposure Photography will be here on November 9th to take senior headshots.  Headshots are due the following week so this will be your last chance to have your headshot taken and edited for only $25.  Please see Ms. Naura in A101 to sign up as spots are limited

General Council Meeting will be held November 10th in room A 106 at 2:30. All clubs must be present with one member representing a club.

Have a brand new coat; don’t know what to do with it. Please donate any new coats and/or hats and gloves to Ms. Altomonte’s Room A 106. The coats, gloves and hats, will be donated to families in need November 18th.

Fordson is looking to re-start its bowling team this winter for boys and girls. We need approximately 8 of each to form a team. Please contact Mr. Proctor if you are interested in participating. We need to begin on November 13th.

Boy’s basketball tryouts are scheduled for Monday November 13th. You must have an MHSAA sports physical to try out. If you completed a fall sport, you are all set. Tryouts are as follows:

FRESHMAN WILL BEGIN AT 2:30

JUNIOR VARSITY WILL BEGIN AT 4:15

VARSITY WILL BEGIN AT 7:45

Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in

 

Wrestling will begin Monday, November 13th.  You must have a completed physical to try out.

If you would like to test out of a class in December, please see your counselor.  The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, Nov. 16th.  The form is now online.

Need volunteer hours? Sign up with Mrs. Allie or Ms. Altomonte to help deliver thanksgiving food and make boxes on November 18th at 11am. See where your donations go and come help our families in need.

Boys swimming will begin Monday, November 20th.  You must have a physical.

The Pay It Forward Club wants to invite you to join in our November Thankful Challenge. Each day, on Snapchat and/or Instagram, post a photo of something/someone you are thankful for and use the hashtags #imthankfulfor and #FHSthankfulchallenge. 30 days, 30 posts! Let’s make being thankful a permanent way of thinking!

Seniors: Head shots are due November 17th-NO EXCEPTIONS- You must turn in a CD to Mrs. Kubitz in C203 and sign off that she received it. Electronic copies must be submitted via a drop box through your photographer. Either way you must sign off to ensure that Mrs. Kubitz received it. If you have any further questions, see Mrs. Kubitz in C203.

Counseling

Henry Ford College informational visit November 8th, 2017. Sign up in the counseling office.

Michigan State will be on site November 10th 2017 starting 9AM. Students must submit an application online prior to Nov. 10th. The application online requires ACT/SAT scores. After registering online, be sure to sign in for the event in the counseling office.

Eastern Michigan University informational visit November 13th, 2017. Sign up in the counseling office.

U of M Dearborn offering scholarships to students based on GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Please visit umdearborn.edu/scholarships for more information and to apply.  Application deadline 12/15/17

The American Legion, Dept of MI Wilson Scholarship & Dept of MI Brewer Scholarship available to residents attending high school and are a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran planning to attend any Michigan accredited college or university. Based on student’s GPA of 2.5 or higher, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s honorable active war-time military service, goals and intentions.  Forms available in counselors office. Deadline is January 8, 2018. Award is $500.

U of M Club of Greater Detroit Scholarship has 12 unique scholarship opportunities worth $3,500 each for incoming Freshman Fall 2018. Applications are accepted online.  Visit www.umclubgreaterdetroit.org for online application and scholarship info. Deadline is Friday, January 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm.

Michigan Rural Water Association is sponsoring a video contest. The contest is open to grades 9-12, individually or as a group of no more than 4, and a teacher representing a specific department must sponsor entries.  Limit is 10 videos per school.  Application/info available is counseling office.  Video submission deadline is January 24, 18.

National Co-op Scholarship Program. Deadline is Feb. 15th, 2018

Making the turn against Parkinson’s $5,000 scholarship award. Deadline is March 1st, 2018.
