Although social media may have the advantage of being the first place a story is told it isn’t always the place where the most accurate story is told. I would like to take a moment to provide you with information regarding a message discovered today at Fordson High School.
On Wednesday, the administration at Fordson was made aware of graffiti placed on a wall in a boy’s restroom. The message warned students not to come to school and contained threatening comments.
The administration, working with our School Resource Officer, began to evaluate the credibility of the message. After further investigation and consulting with other Dearborn Police officers it was determined there was no evidence the message posed any credible threat of danger to students, staff, or the school.
In another era the message that was found would have been dismissed without a thought. However, we now live in a time where we must, to ensure the safety of all students and staff, take any type of threat seriously and be thorough in our investigation.
All staff members at Fordson pride themselves on providing our students, your children, with a safe learning environment. Communications is key to that process and I hope that my message to all of you today will help to enhance that process. If you have any questions please feel free to contact my office at 827-1404.

Ensuring the safety of all students is a paramount objective of both the Dearborn Public Schools and the Dearborn Police Department. An area of common complaints and concern is traffic related issues in school zones during student drop off and pick up. Motorists often create unsafe conditions for students by blocking roadways, speeding, and improper parking. As in previous years, the Dearborn Police Department will be conducting directed traffic enforcement in the school zones. Please be careful and obey all traffic laws. This includes double parking, blocking driveways, failure to completely stop at a stop sign, failure to yield to a bus or pedestrians, disobey a school crossing guard, and other traffic infractions.
Please keep in mind:
- The bus stop is for buses only
- Walk children to school when possible
- Drop off/pick up children a short distance away from school when possible. This alleviates traffic congestion around our schools
- Once your child is out of the car and safely on the sidewalk vacate the area to make room for other parents to drop off their children.
- Be mindful of school staff and crossing guards. They are there for your child’s safety.
- Be a “Good Neighbor” by being mindful of residents who live near school zones.

The Dearborn Public Schools would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of immunizing your child. Immunizations are one of the most effective measures to protect children from harmful diseases and even death. All children who attend school in Michigan are required by state law to be fully immunized.
Vaccination is one of the best ways parents can protect infants, children, and teens from 16 potentially harmful viral and bacterial diseases including the following: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Bacterial Meningitis, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Chickenpox.
Vaccine-preventable diseases can be very serious, may require hospitalization, or even be deadly–especially in infants and young children.
Although we have not had any cases of students with Chickenpox in Dearborn Public Schools, the Wayne County Health Department has informed us of several new cases being reported throughout Wayne County. There is no reason to be overly alarmed, but we felt it was important to share this information with our parents.
If you would like more information on immunizing your child and counsel in regards to the health benefits and risks of immunizations, please contact your primary care physician, one of the urgent care facilities in our city, the Wayne County Health Department, or visit Michigan Department of Health and Human Services website.
