Student voice has been the driving force behind both councils because Dr. Maleyko welcomes the diverse student voices that represent our school district. We’re looking for you if you’re looking to speak up and say something that will maximize school life for ALL students. It only takes one person to make a difference, will it be YOU? Read and complete the application by September 11, 2019. The qualifications are as follows:
(1) Excellent attendance (2) A 2.5 G.P.A. or higher (3) Skills to collaborate with fellow students (4) A desire to make positive change in your school (5) Effective communication & presentation skills (6) A willingness to follow the policies in the District Student Code of Conduct (7) The discipline to attend monthly meetings during the school day and balance your academics. If you are already a member, you do not need to submit an application.

Message from Principal Alcodray

On Thursday afternoon, Fordson High School’s junior varsity football team scrimmaged a team from another school district.

After the game, there was an altercation between some of the players from both teams. Fordson staff members, as well as Dearborn Police, immediately stepped in to separate students and calm the situation.

As per Board policy and past practice, one Fordson staff member was placed on Administrative Leave for their involvement in this incident.  It is important to note that being placed on Administrative Leave is not an indication of guilt or innocence. It is a procedural practice done to protect all parties involved and to ensure an unbiased investigation can take place. The District is required to follow all of the processes and procedures that are routinely followed anytime a staff member is involved in such an occurrence.

Another contracted employee will not be allowed on district property also pending the outcome of the District’s investigation. All of the details of this incident are still being investigated by the District and Dearborn Police. Any further comment at this time would only be based on speculation and rumor.

Appropriate disciplinary practices will be followed for students involved in the incident.

The timing of this unfortunate event comes when much of our attention is focused on getting back to school and participating in many of the valued high school traditions such as athletic competition.  As Principal of Fordson High School, and a proud member of the Fordson community, I ask that we continue to focus on preparing for the first day of school and the return of our students to the classroom.

Breakfast/Lunch Programs

Dear Principals,

On behalf of SFE, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve alongside you.  In preparation for the new school year, I also would like to introduce myself and tell you about our exciting, new breakfast and lunch programs with SFE. As your child nutrition partner, we want to be sure that every student can look forward to meals that are both nutritious and delicious—so that they are happy, healthy and nourished to learn.

With increasing participation in mind, my team and I have been busy preparing for the new school year and are excited to introduce you to our menus and educational programs:

  • We pledge a focus on fresh-from-scratch cooking and menu variety.
  • Fresh fruit and vegetable salad bars will be available daily at lunch.  While this will be free for students who purchase a meal, salad bar access also will be available as an a la carte option.
  • Full nutritional information will be posted for all menu items on the Dearborn Schools website and Nutrislice webpage:
  • The Roving Chef program is available.  This exciting culinary program will provide your specially selected students with instruction in nutrition, proper food safety/cooking techniques and healthy meal preparation.
  • A variety of entrées will be offered daily to appeal to different student tastes and preferences.
  • Students are encouraged to try something new and eat in the cafeteria with their peers.
  • A selection of 3 entrée choices will be offered daily for Elementary aged students. Middle Schools will have 4-5 and High Schools will have 6-8.
  • All meals and a la carte options offered within the district will be certified halal and/or vegetarian.

I’ve attached a letter you can distribute to students or include in back-to-school packets.

Lastly, I would love the opportunity to answer any questions you may have about changes to the foodservice program.  Don’t hesitate to email or call me any time.  If you’re interested in connecting face-to-face, let me know and we’ll set up a time.

We are very excited about this partnership with your school district and hope you will be too. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let me know.

(SFE – Southwest Foodservice Excellence)
