SAT word of the day: – Obsolete– “ob-so-leet”: Definition: Does not exist anymore..OR..no longer used. The sample sentence is: I was told that my old printer is obsolete and I cannot order replacement parts since they are not made anymore.

Battle of Hunger is here again! Bring any cans you have at home and/or donations will be collected by the tractor and in room A106!! It is time to feed the hungry; last year we fed 35,532 families in Southeastern Michigan lets feed 40,000 this year! Donations will be accepted all week up until Friday.

Boys’ basketball tryouts are scheduled for today. You must have an MHSAA sports physical to try out. If you completed a fall sport, you are all set. Tryouts are as follows:

FRESHMAN WILL BEGIN AT 2:30

JUNIOR VARSITY WILL BEGIN AT 4:15

VARSITY WILL BEGIN AT 7:45

Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Attention seniors– come to the cafeteria tomorrow and Wednesday to order your cap and gown for graduation commencements. Jostens company will be there taking your order with your payment during all three lunches on both days

Varsity cheerleading tryout clinics will be held tomorrow and Wednesday from 2:30-4:30pm. Tryouts for the team will be held Thursday from 2:30-4:30pm.  All girls that try out for the team MUST attend at least 1 tryout clinic this week. Please meet outside the small gym at 2:30pm each day.  If you have any questions please see Ms. Hadous in room A201.

Seniors: This is the last week to turn in your headshot. Please do not forget, otherwise your ID picture will go into the yearbook. Turn in your CDs to Mrs. Kubitz in C203 or have your photographers submit your photo via dropbox. Either way please sign off by Nov. 17th with Mrs. Kubitz in C203. This is a firm deadline, no exceptions.

Want to help make a difference in your local community. Tis the season for giving! Student Government will be collecting donations in room A 106 or to your teachers who have an Amity container. This money will help feed and clothe families in need!

Buy your Thanksgiving candy grams for $2 during lunch, from a 2018 representative, or go to Ms. Saab and Ms. Ganfi in B202

Yearbooks are still on sale. They are now $75; don’t miss out on your memories! Get yours before the price goes up to $80.

Have a brand new coat; don’t know what to do with it. Please donate any new coats and/or hats and gloves to Ms. Altomonte’s Room, A 106. The coats, gloves and hats, will be donated to families in need November 18th.

Need volunteer hours? Sign up with Mrs. Allie or Ms. Altomonte to help deliver thanksgiving food and make boxes on November 18th at 11am. See where your donations go and come help our families in need.

Boys swimming will begin Monday, November 20th.  You must have a physical.

The Pay It Forward Club wants to invite you to join in our November Thankful Challenge. Each day, on Snapchat and/or Instagram, post a photo of something/someone you are thankful for and use the hashtags #imthankfulfor and #FHSthankfulchallenge. 30 days, 30 posts! Let’s make being thankful a permanent way of thinking!

The annual Fordson Friendsgiving Dinner will take place Tuesday November 21st at 6:30 at Habib’s. It is open to all staff and students. Tickets are $30 but 100% of all profits will be donated to Zaman International Sips of Hope Well Campaign. Please see a board member of the pay it forwards club or Ms. Reda in room A128 to purchase tickets. Seats are limited and tickets are selling fast so buy yours ASAP.

Counseling

Attention students: If interested in dual enrollment, please apply and turn in your forms ASAP

If you would like to test out of a class in December, please see your counselor. The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, Nov. 16th.  The form is now online.

U of M Dearborn offering scholarships to students based on GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Please visit umdearborn.edu/scholarships for more information and to apply.  Application deadline December 15th, 2017.

$2,500 Scholarship Award is still available for eligible students and parents through December 31, 2017. Students and parents can enter by signing up to receive tips and resources on CollegeCovered.com. No purchase or loan necessary to enter or win.

The American Legion, Dept of MI Wilson Scholarship & Dept of MI Brewer Scholarship available to residents attending high school and are a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran planning to attend any Michigan accredited college or university. Based on student’s GPA of 2.5 or higher, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s honorable active war-time military service, goals and intentions.  Forms available in counselors office. Deadline is January 8, 2018. Award is $500.

U of M Club of Greater Detroit Scholarship has 12 unique scholarship opportunities worth $3,500 each for incoming Freshman Fall 2018. Applications are accepted online.  Visit www.umclubgreaterdetroit.org for online application and scholarship info. Deadline is Friday, January 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm.

Michigan Rural Water Association is sponsoring a video contest. The contest is open to grades 9-12, individually or as a group of no more than 4, and a teacher representing a specific department must sponsor entries.  Limit is 10 videos per school.  Application/info available is counseling office.  Video submission deadline is January 24, 18.

National Co-op Scholarship Program. Deadline is Feb. 15th, 2018

Parentinn – Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens – Annual Scholarship​Information available online at ​http://www.parentinn.com/scholarship. Deadline is Feb 28, 2018.

Making the turn against Parkinson’s $5,000 scholarship award. Deadline is March 1st, 2018.

NFL Alumni- Detroit Chapter Student Athlete Scholarship- online application can be found on www.nflalumnidet.org. Two $2,500 scholarships are awarded, application deadline March 2nd, 2018.  Info. available in counseling office.
